Staying in one of the boroughs and want to take my kid in to NYC for maybe 4ish hrs and hit an overview of some sites. I considered a tour bus but then thought it might be better to just drive and hit the places I want: Times Sq, ground zero, Wall St, Rockefeller Center, Brooklyn Bridge, etc. May get out of the car but maybe not, may just drive by everything or maybe get out and walk around Times Sq for an hr or so and then be in the car for everything else.
My kid and I would be with a friend who would be doing the driving in his car.
Would that be ok on Black Friday or would it be a nightmare? Is it better to get tickets for a hop on/off bus? Didn't seem worth it since we would not be getting off very much.
Traffic wise the city is usually pretty dead that weekend.
I disagree they should be fine on Thursday but Friday to Sunday there will be bad traffic due to Black Friday deals, social media influencers, and families visiting the city seeing Christmas decoration. I advise the poster to drive 25 MPH anywhere on local city streets because speed light cameras $50 first offense if you do over 8-10 mph the speed limit.
I don't think driving around on Black Friday is a problem in NYC. As already mentioned regular weekday parking rules will be in effect. The only thing I wouldn't do is go to a large store that has a Black Friday sale.

Definitely won't be going to any dept stores or doing any shopping. I grew up in one of the boroughs but never went into the city on black friday so have no idea of the traffic but my guess was that it is light that day. I'm leaning towards driving around rather than a tour bus.
Drive to the financial district (Ground Zero, Wall St, Brooklyn Bridge etc), park and take the train or bus to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. Times Square and Rockefeller Center are a nightmare on Black Friday, even if you're walking.
