I was just reading about chef Michael Lomonaco, who was at the WTC on 9/11 ... but happened to be running out to get his eyeglasses repaired, so he survived.

There are so many stories like this. A friend of mine was walking down a street and an air conditioner came crashing to the ground just a few yards away. I've certainly had times when there was some kind of potentially lethal incident shortly after I passed by some location.

Have you had, or heard of, similar examples or narrow escapes in recent years?

New a guy ,from the big M next door to the towers. He saw saved a dozen of people, including a few pd/fd folks. He could walk that building blindfolded.

I have come within a razor edge form death.
Initially numbed, followed by disbelief.
Survived. Moved on. That's it.
Don't believe in "trauma". Nonsense.
Look forward...............never back.

It was only over time and reflection that a higher power ( God in my case )
kept me from the clutches of the grim reaper. Constant prayer keeps one safe.
For those lacking in faith.............luck was on my side.

We are living in dark days................where evil is vying for the upper hand.
I try to surround myself where God ( Good Luck to others ) is always present.
Best wishes.

Yes there was one very close call for me that I still get tense just thinking about it. I was walking in Manhattan when I came upon the curb. Right as I got to the edge of the curb, a city bus was approaching very fast. Luckily, I pulled back just enough to barely missed getting slammed by its sideview mirror, which if anyone ever noticed is huge.

It missed me by literally millimeters because I could feel it clipped my hair and the sound of the “whoosh” of air was as close to my face as it can get without actually hitting me. I think that if I got slammed by it, I would have had severe head trauma.

I am surprised this does not happen more often with how far out those mirrors extend and the large number of buses and pedestrians interacting daily on the streets.

I have a good story. I had an interview on the 95th floor in August 2001. I was excited about the view being on WTC Tower 1. But I didn’t get called back for a 2nd interview since my hiring manager had quit.

But that is not about narrow escapes, which is what I was posting about.

In 2004 someone pointed a gun and shot at me from less than 5’ away. The muzzle-flash was in my face, point blank. Somehow he totally missed. As I tackled him, he stuck the gun in my stomach - I felt the barrel below my vest. Somehow that bullet ended up in his own knee. I walked away without a scratch.

9/11 survivor here, One WTC, worked on 72, was on 43 at time of impact.

I like to remind people from time to time that an estimated 15,000 of us got out alive that day before the buildings went down.

Not inches close but meters close. A driver, probably drunk smashed into a lightpost at the end of the short block I was walking up. Lightpost slammed down on the sidewalk just in front of me. If I'd been a few meters ahead I could be dead or severely injured.
