That G train is horrible so I understand that, but cutting the Q, 6, and L? WHY?
Just say you're mad at the mayor for not doing anything about transit safety and keep it movin'.
Growing up in Brooklyn along the G line, the MTA, in 2001, decided to reduce the number of cars from eight to four, due to to closure of all the factories along Williamsburg (Pfizer, Domino Sugar, etc....!). But, gentrification happened along the 21-year way.....!
Except fact that nearly every effing day there is some sort of issue on Q, N,R, and W trains.
You get down station or platform on "Q" or look at app and see wait times of 10, 15 or more minutes for next train.
I'm not sure if that really makes a difference. Trains that have headways scheduled 30 seconds to a minute further apart is not going to be substantially less or more reliable and if anything would be more likely to tip into more "reliable" territory (though not really) since it's relatively common practice to pad out train schedules in case of unexpected delays.
I do think the idea of having more scheduled weekend trains on the G, M, and J does make sense as they are pretty packed on weekends.
What I'd like to see though, since they're ostensibly basing this on ridership patterns data, is for some baseline model projections for what the expected change in ridership numbers would be and then to actually have that data and parameters for which that would trigger another discussion in terms of reverting to the previous schedule or some other schedule change. If MTA's going to change schedules based on data, then they should also have a plan for how to test the assumptions they've made on its effects.

WFH has caused lower ridership on Mondays & Fridays, and WFH isn't going away. That's not the MTA's fault but that's the reality of the situation. Only a few banks and some other companies are whining out loud about WFH because they are stuck with a lot of expensive office space. Once the leases on all that space runs out, those same employers will be encouraging WFH again.
The upper-middle class has abandoned the subway system and now the middle-class is doing the same as much as is possible. Why ride the filthy unsafe subways filled with violent homeless people when you can work from the safety of your home? Get up later, save 2 or more hours a day in commuting time, save $$ on overpriced lunch, etc.
Blame the politicians and the people who supported the prolonged lockdown.
Exactly. It's hilarious how the democrat Covid lockdown of NYS/NYC has come back to bite them on their backsides. Cuomo/Hochul/deBlasio relished in their abuse of power. What they didn't figure on were all those higher-paid suburban employees figuring out that they can Work From Home and rarely have to step foot in NYC's filthy crime-ridden streets, ride the subways or give hundreds of dollars a month to the MTA or the NJT.

So, everyone goes to work during a pandemic and catches covid. The lockdowns were necessary, and all of you folk who have a political issue with it know this! Some of even went down to Florida and used it as an excuse to escape riding the buses and trains with the working and lower class.
Stay at home or leave New York. Let's call White Collar Flight for what it is.....!

The crazy thing is, they locked down the economy to "save lives" yet they are now pushing people to stop the WFH and come back to the office. And because of that pressure from them, my company started pushing me to come back. And guess what? I recently caught Covid going back to the office! So much for locking down the economy to save lives!
