It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to immigrate to CANADA - especially for USA citizen. Illegal immigrant Americans are handled with harsh punitive prosecution. There is tremendous bureaucracy to keep Americans from immigrating to Canada. However. the Canadian talkmaster / snake oil salesmen game is strong and they often virtue signal that they are welcoming but only within a social engineering context.
Actually the article is kind of funny - funny/sad. Like the migrant family that took the bus up north because the 15 year old daughter saw on Tiktok that it's a good idea. Lol.
Good luck with Canada. They have rules that ensure they only get productive immigrants who have money and will benefit the society NOT benefit FROM society
Wish we had that
It's ambiguous. Remember these are refugees not immigrants. If they cross at a legal border crossing - there is a policy between the U.S and Canada that the Refugee can be sent back to the U.S as the U.S is a safe country and they should go through the process in the first safe country they enter. That would be same vice versa. That said, I have heard that that policy isn't always enforced, particularly if they enter through an un-official crossing such as Roxham Road. In this case up to 2/3rds of them are ultimately settled in Canada and the other third deported back to their country of origin (not U.S).
So basically a lot of these refs coming to Canada via the U.S border do end up in Canada long term.

All of these so called "migrants" traveled through one or more safe countries before showing up at USA's southern border. Some have been living for several years to a decade or more in places like Brazil.
Bottom line is they are nearly to a one economic migrants and claiming asylum is their fast track to US legal resident status.

My understanding is that Canada and the U.S only recognize one another as safe countries in terms of refugees crossing our border.
Even then though, atleast for Canada - most of these refugees end up our responsibility if they cross into Canada from a U.S land border even with this agreement in place. So the agreement doesn't have much teeth to it.
There is an interesting discussion on this in the Canada section you might find interesting as we're discussing it there.
It will only be a matter of time when this lawlessness comes
to an end and America is returned back to we the people.
