Looks like UES won't lose Papaya King after all, they're just moving across the street to space formerly occupied by Le Pain Quotidien

https://nypost.com/2023/04/04/nycs-p...ation-to-move/

Prior to LPQ 1535 Third was Maison Kayser, but they went bankrupt during covid pandemic and shut down all USA locations.

Wait, so that LPQ is closing already on 87th and 3rd? Always had people in there when I would go to get pastries or pick-up food. When did that LPQ close?

Correction!

LPQ isn't closed. 1535 Third also is where Modell's once was and that is the space Papaya King is moving into.

Sorry about that. You can rest easy knowing your spot for for pastries and pick-up food is still around.

I was about to say. Yeah that Modell's spot has been vacant for ages. Should be interesting to see it as a hot dog spot. Truth be told, I haven't eaten at one of those Papaya places in I would say almost ten years. One late Saturday night on the Upper West Side, we were coming from the Indie movie theatre that is now closed on Broadway near W 62nd St and saw the hot dog place on 72nd was still open and we got a few dogs and piña coladas. Prior to that, used to frequent the one on W 4th St. Remember the last time I ate there, friend was almost an hour late and to soothe my crankiness, stopped off there. Nice to see a NY institution being kept for once.

I always get them mixed up with Grey's.

I think Grey's is the one spouting about polite New Yorkers, even though they're not particularly polite themselves.

I could go for one of their Banana Daiquiris right now, what an unique tasting beverage

Yeah, I never pay attention enough to distinguish the two, since I rarely eat hot dogs.

That's (Modell's) an AWFULLY big spot for a niche restaurtant like LPQ.
I have a gift certificate to reclaim so I hope they hang around for a bit.

I miss Modell's. That's where I bought my steady stream of last year's New Balances at better than half price. I did it in Jersey City (Newport) and picked up right where I left off when I moved. And now, the rest is silence.

LPQ isn't moving. It's Papaya King that is moving there, though I agree that it is rather big space for them.
