Which nyc food is more iconic: cronut or chopped cheese?

I think chopped cheese is more iconic in the city while cronuts are more popular among tourists and outsiders and have been copied in other places.

Cronuts we’re kind of a gimmick and craze but chopped
Cheese is more of a staple like bagels and pizza

So I’m leaning towards chopped cheese as I think it’ll have more lasting power

What do you think?

Never had chopped cheese. Only heard about it recently. What am I missing here. Musically a chopped up burger from low grade meat?

Neither chop cheese nor cronut has been around long enough to be considered iconic NYC. Ten years old does not an icon make.

Fuggedaboutit!

The NYC bagel is 100 years old.

Counterpoint

Then ny bagel and pizza have people who prefer bagels or pizza variants from other places (plenty people prefer Montreal bagels to ny bagels, and many prefer Chicago or New Haven pizza to nyc)

No other city claims chopped cheese. I doubt you can even get it anywhere outside of Ny. It is the most purely nyc thing you can get nowadays in the city. You can get ny style pizza or bagels elsewhere to widely varying range of quality (much not nearly as good as nyc but some are actually pretty respectable).

Chopped cheese is the ghetto version of the cheese steak. Ground beef from hamburgers put into too much bread and mayonnaise.

Of course, you wouldn't know it. Must be used to eating $23 bagels and pastrami sandwiches from Jewish delis. Chopped cheese is a NY staple of the projects.

Cronuts have lost their cool factor a while ago.
