If this is a lifelong dream of hers and you can afford it, you might want to seriously consider the hotel room option. As others have written, absent your mother being unusually mobile and healthy for her age, I would not bring her out and about on the actual route down on the street. Hell, you couldn't pay me to go down in that madhouse of an environment and I'm in my 30s.

$3,000 to watch a PARADE. Are anti-psychotic meds included?

Full-service hotels in midtown during the holidays are usually $400-$500/night and up, even without the parade views.

I've always thought the holiday season is one of the most enjoyable times to be in the city, and apparently so do a lot of visitors.

Math lesson: $750 per night is MORE than $400-$500 per night.

Yes, and that is the starting point for a non-luxury hotel in midtown without a view. The view of the parade is why the Hilton rooms cost more, and an extra $250/night might be worth it to a family looking to experience the parade in comfort… especially if you have little kids or less-mobile older relatives. I’ve certainly spent way more than that to make sure my 80+ year old mom was more comfortable, especially when traveling.

No waking up early, worrying about the weather, staking out a spot early and then waiting around for hours before jostling for position when things get going. Just roll out of bed, order some room service and open the curtains.

True. And money means different things to different people. While I can't imagine a situation where I'd spend anything close to such an amount per night (even though I can more than afford to do so), plenty have no problem doing so (hence the packed rooms in these cities during the holiday season). I also tend not to attack people for what they choose to spend their own money on.
