I am potentially moving to midtown Manhattan (MSG area) and will need affordable monthly parking. I currently live downtown and do the 'street cleaner dance' twice a week - free parking. I don't think the 'dance' exists in midtown.

Anyone care to share any secrets about midtown parking? Hoping for something $300 or less - am I crazy?

P.S., I have a mini-van, so this makes it even more challenging.

I don't know of anything but you can try the website Spothero and click on monthly.

https://spothero.com/search?kind=cit...hoCbqkQAvD_BwE

And yeah $300 a month for a garage is totally unrealistic in midtown

For that price you gonna have to travel I’d say back to 1992 or so.
Can you minivan hit 88 mph? And you will need plutonium.

Do like some people do -- don't move your car on one day of alternate side of the street parking, then collect your parking ticket once a week and pay it. Your car might be exposed to the elements, break-ins, and the like, but it can be a lot cheaper than a 24/7 Midtown garage. Of course, forget to pay the ticket and don't be surprised if you find a boot on your wheels.

Interesting idea. My kid lives near Park Slope where street cleaning is once a week. That's $260 a month. Less than a garage, but on the other hand, pretty inconvenient.

You'll be lucky to find parking at all much less "affordable" in mid-town. In fact that goes for much of Manhattan and some parts of outer boroughs as well. Too many vechiles competing for what's left of street parking, especially overnight.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/09/n...king-cars.html

Besides fact huge parts of mid-town are covered by a vast and bewildering array of meter parking, loading zones, etc... City has upped the ante by taking away parking for dining sheds, bike lanes, car share spots...

Then pile on fact eff tons of new residential has been created in mid-town (and more is still coming) bringing many more persons with vehicles to area. Much of this new housing was created on formerly vacant land being used as parking lots and garages.

Quite honestly parking is bad all over Manhattan. People are parking on hydrants, "no parking" zones and other areas they shouldn't. If they get a ticket cost is still less than garage even if hit with a few per month or week.

You can find that in NJ and walk into Manhattan. LOL.

My sister has a parking space in her building's garage (east 20s). She rents it out for $400 a month and people are happy to pay it.

Down the street in the public lot, it's probably twice that.

Or move into a doorman building and grease some palms to reserve a parking spot right in front.

Blocking out street parking spaces on city with cones is not new, in fact up and down UES, UWS and elsewhere in Manhattan it's been going on for decades. Thing is now eff ton of new luxury housing in Manhattan do not have parking garages.

Doormen to rescue! For price of a generous tip or Christmas bonus you can have a spot right outside in front of building.

Have friends in Yorkville in East 80's that once had no problems finding parking. But since all those new luxury towers have gone up along Third and Second that has changed.

One building at corner of Second and 80th routinely blocks with cones entire curb parking in front. Day, night, over night, three, four or five cones placed in street to hold parking for residents.
