Can NYC area airports and subways, buses handle all the extra people ?
New York will host the final match of the 2026 World Cup Final, FIFA announced Sunday, as soccer fans await the tournament’s U.S. return more than two years from now.
The opening match of the tournament will be played on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City, Mexico, Canada’s first match will be played on June 12, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, and the United States’ first match will be played June 12, 2026, in Los Angeles, California.
MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where both New York NFL teams play, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where the Dallas Cowboys play, were rumored to be favorites.
The players are probably glad they don’t have to pay NYC income taxes. The worst is the weather in the area is so bad even during the summer it rains so much. And Met Life does not have a dome.
Unfortunately yes. It was idiotic that NYC didn't build a stadium at Hudson yards for the Jets, and to bring in an Olympics. They let all this business go to NJ.
Even Murphy understands the reality that FIFA doesn't really want to say that the finals will be held in . . .
East Rutherford or Secaucus New Jersey.
But why do politicians always add something political to every announcement, even sports related ones. What does DEI have to do with FIFA finals?
"“As a lifelong soccer fan, I am thrilled to announce that the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final will be hosted by New Jersey and New York City! See you in 2026!,” New Jersey governor Phil Murphy posted on X Sunday.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our entire region; hosting the Final provides NYNJ an unparalleled platform to brilliantly showcase what we stand for — diversity, equality, access, and inclusion,” he wrote in a statement."

I suppose they could have had underwater parking for all the cars and buses.
