I realize I am going to have to share a bathroom. But I'm running solo and wonder if I might get some suggestions for clean and safe. I found one called the Hotel 17 for $119, but it's in lower Manhattan. Like I said, I wouldn't mind sharing a bathroom or paying more than $119. I'm hopeful to take the subway to the stadium.
I'm going to the Mets/Yankees game in a couple weeks at Shea. I'm kinda bummed out that my best friend can't go now so I too am going solo. Luckily, my aunt has an apartment in the city that she's letting me stay at so I don't have to pay for that. But I recomend looking in hotels.com to get a list of places. Then call the hotels directly and ask for rates or specials. That's what I would probably do if I had to get a room. Good luck.
I'd recommend Jazz on the Park at 106th & Central Park West. It's 3 blocks from the B train which goes directly to Yankee Stadium (15 minute right) and very close to lots of transportation to the rest of Manhattan. The C/B and 1/2/3 trains are all in walking distance as well as lots of buses. It is well within the budget you are asking for, especially if you don't mind sharing.
The Hotel 17 at 17th and 3rd Avenue($119/nt), and a B&B near Washington Square($100) night. I'm relying on people I don't know to tell me they're in safe areas and are clean. I guess that's all I can do. The Jazz on the Park is a hostel. I don't think I want to go that far.
Third Ave & 17th is very safe. There's a Quaker Meeting House nearby. Not on the B/D line, but no big deal.
Washington Square is NYU, between Greenwich Village and East Village. Safe and active.
