I want to see the Yankees play, but the tickets are sold out. I checked out stubhub but they seem very pricey. Could I get tickets cheaper if I find a scalper outside the stadium? Are the prices generally less than whats on stubhub, especially right before the game?

Would it be a problem to find tickets through a scalper, and is it legal in NYC?

As far as I know it is not illegal to buy scalped tickets... it is the seller who is breaking the law. And it is only illegal if you are selling at more than 5% (?) more than the face value of the tickets.

Be very careful when you do buy from someone on the street. Check that they are the correct day/game. There are counterfeits floating around out there but I am not sure exactly what to look for.

Yes, pay attention and be careful. It also helps to wait until the game has started, maybe even after the 1st inning, as they will be more anxious to dump what's left.

You are coming at a rough time as they are playing the last 20 games in the history of the current Stadium right now, so they're much harder to get than usual. That should ensure sellouts in September even as the team tanks. Hee hee.
