I'm an ad writer that is trying to build enough clients so I can move outside the city, be near trees, have cheaper rent and work virtually.
The trick is I need to be 1 to 1.5 hours away (at most) from the city by train so I can come in for meetings.
Where are New Yorkers who love the culture and people of New York moving to get away from the noise, lack of nature and high high costs?
I'm still considering Inwood and Queens, but in my mind a 45 minute subway ride is far more noisy & stressful than a 1.5 hour train ride.
The commute won't be every day. More like once a week at most so it's ok if it's on a bus line.
When I say cheap I mean something in the range of 400 sq feet for $600 or so.
THANK YOU

Reason: needed to
If it's train-able it's going to be more expensive. The Hudson Valley if full of telecommuters. It's quite hip and very beautiful, but the affordable areas are a little longer that an hour and a half away. You should also look at commuter bus options. They service the west bank of the Hudson (the train is on the east bank). A friend of my teaches (college) in the city. He commutes a couple of days a week from Woodstock on the bus. It all depends of how frequently you need to be in the city.
If you are considering Inwood, why not check out Parkchester (see the latest Parkchester thread). Cheap, close to the City, spacious apartments and tons of trees and greenspace. Also, if you are a nature lover, it is very close to the Bronx Botanical Garden where you could visit every weekend if you wanted to. Saturdays are free if you enter between 10:00 and 12:00.
If things pick up, I may be able to stay here in the heart of Williamsburg, but also I'm really growing tired of construction noise and lack of trees.
Ah, to have the money to have a nice place near Grand Army Plaza near Prospect Park.
