I live in the DC area. When I go to NYC, I usually do some shopping for my wife in Little Italy and occasionally 5th avenue.

So, what are your favorite places to shop in all boroughs of the city? Which specific blocks are your favorite?

Not much of a shopper but Bay Plaza in Co-op City is my usual in-city spot, but that's in the Bronx.

6th Avenue from 14th Street to 23rd Street in Manhattan is pretty good for shopping also.

I usually just go up to the upper west side. It has all the downtown stores minus the millions of tourists.

Does Macys and Bloomingdales have dress codes? Besides the obvious of course. I know you probably need to have a shirt on etc. But if you walk in there in regular shorts and flip flops is that okay?
