What subway line should I take on a late Saturday afternoon from the WTC Path train to Canal Street near Little Italy and Chinatown? I've been studying the NYC subway map, but I can't seem to find a line that gets me directly to the Canal Street stations. Do I have to take the 5 line from Fulton/Broadway, and connect to the 4 at City Hall that will bring me to Canal/Lafayette? What about later that evening when returning to the WTC Path train?

a great resource is google maps. Shows all the subway stations and you can plug in directions - it will give you walking directions (if you select it) and tell you how far it is to walk in terms of distance. I usually figure about 20 minutes walking for every mile.

Canal Street is Chinatown.. you can't miss the direction you should walk to get deeper into it from the train station.

Or, if you want to get closer and don't mind a little extra straphanging, you can take the PATH to 33 Street and transfer there for the N or R, either of which will put you right in the middle of Chinatown, at Canal and Broadway.

You should walk from the WTC PATH station to Canal Street. It's an easy walk and not worth the $2 subway ride (one stop?).
