One of the worst mistakes I ever made involved Burritoville.
I walked into a Chipotle somewhere in the East 50s at lunch time and was met by a line that stretched all the way to the door.
I left immediately and went to a Burritoville directly across the street that was practically empty.
There was, it turns out, a reason that Chipotle was so much more popular. I don't have horrible associations with Burritoville but I can't say I would ever go out of my way to eat there, and I won't miss it.
I never ate at burritoville but I can't stand Moe's they are disgusting the salsa is nasty and the burritos and equally disgusting. I prefer Chipotle anyday of the week but thats just my opinion.
Chipotle is TERRIBLE, Moes is way better than chipotle, are there moes in NYC?
There's a Moe's Southwest on First Ave in the low 20s, between 21st and 22nd. I like Moe's because they grill everything fresh for you, which is cool.
I like Chipotle, but then I knew them before they came east, back from Denver days when they were even better. It seems that some shops are very good and others are a little more spotty.
Burritoville was okay, but the times I have eaten there, I found myself comparing it to other burrito places. I am not surprised that they did not survive in the wake of stiff competition. It used to be that there were only a couple of Chipotle locations in the city, but now they have much more of the market.
My favorite burritos, however, tend to be from one-off shops, a rarity these days, where locals tend to take time and craft their food, even if it's faster food on the go as opposed to large chain stores with hundreds of outlets, though Chipotle does a good job to strike a balance overall.
The fresh grilling is key. Actually I think the food is pre-cooked, but warmed up on a grill, but that's better than a steam tray. And that crazy menu is always a hoot, "I'll have a Triple Lindy and a John Coctostan, please". Also... free chips-n-salsa. As it should be.
I didn't know there was a Moe's in NYC, but that's a pretty inconvenient location for me. I checked the website and there is also one on Staten Island.
Speaking of one-off shops, there is a little burrito shop on 19th street around the corner from my office called "Uncle Moe's". I think some lawyers from Atlanta will be contacting them soon.
