OK so I know my title is vauge and broad. I'll be in NYC first week in December. I have visited the area for the Christmas season for the past seven years... except I have always stuck around Manhattan.
I want to see what Brooklyn has to offer! I know its a large area and since I only have a few days I want to narrow down what I might like to see in advance.
1st and foremost.... restaurants... what are some of the best? For example... what would be comparable to somewhere like Jean-Georges or Daniel in Manhattan? I want to have one great dinner for sure.
2ed... best brownstone residental area.... I love touring areas of residental brownstones.
3rd... where are the TV production studios? For example... where CBS tapes As the world turns?
Wow, I can't answer any of your questions directly but some highlights may be the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Museum or the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. You can look on line for what is going to be occurring at these institutions during the time you are in New York. Restaurants are hard for me because I usually go to your basic places. If you like steak, Peter Luger's would be a place to go. If you like Thai food, there is a place in Williamsburg called Sea(?) that you might enjoy. There are loads of restaurants in Brooklyn but being unfamiliar with the ones you mentioned in Manhattan, I cannot honestly recommend something. Crisp44 may have a better take on restaurants in Brooklyn, if they read this thread, since they live in a really good restaurant area in Brooklyn.
For a brownstone area in Brooklyn for a tourist, I would suggest the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill area. Some really nice brownstones and the plus of being able to see Manhattan via the Promenade. BTW, there is a restaurant on Front Street that has a great view of Manhattan and from my understanding, it is supposed to be good. Hope you enjoy your visit this year.
My records say that "As the World Turns" is shot at 1268 East 14th Street, Brooklyn, between Avenue L and Avenue M. The closest subway stop appears to be the Avenue M/E. 16th Street station on the Q line.
Drkman- Thanks for the info!! I will check out Cobble Hill for sure. I know there are tons of good restaurants so I'll have to work on my research some more. Thanks again.
Miles- I just might do that. Thanks.
Squeezeboxgal- Thank you very very much. I will not miss that. I am a huge CBS soaps fan so it'll be will a thrill.
I think that's still NBC Studio on 14th street. I haven't been there in a few years but I grew up right near there. That's where they did SNL originally, the Cosby show and Another World.
Yes, it's still an NBC production facility. Originally, of course, it was Vitagraph Studios--which was where they made movies before there was any such thing as Hollywood. (Brooklyn as the movie-making capital of America...sounds strange these days!)
Does anyone happen to know the exact location for CBS studios?
