My brother(not Irish at all) and sister in law who is Scotch-Irish and a native of Georgia may be coming to NY soon to visit. One place my sister in law might like is the Rambling House in Woodlawn to go to eat. However I don't know what the atmosphere is like there, if it would be clannish or cliquish to outsiders (they're living in the Atlanta area). I don't want to suggest an inappropriate place to them. They also have a 3 year old son whom they feed from a kid's menu, does this place have a kid's menu?
Would this be an interesting diversion for them or just not right?
I can't believe they would be rude in any sort of way bc they are not Irish and live in the South. The main restaurant is separate from the bar area. Of course, Rory Dolan's on McLean Ave is another Irish restaurant (and clubby late at night) but with a large bar not as separate perhaps as Rambling (maybe not as approp for kids in some opinions but it def is a family restaurant). Pretty good food in both from my experience. Call for specifics on menu wherever you decide so you know all will be able to eat.
thanks, they have a website I see too with menu. I am in Riverdale and we could find a place over here, but Woodlawn would seem more authentic for someone of Irish descent
I just spent the day in Woodlawn (the Woodlawn Cemetary, walking around the neighborhood and checking out the various establishments along and around Katonah). We finished with dinner at the Rambling House and had a great meal. Not sure how it is usually, but today the place was PACKED with kids and families because they were throwing a Halloween Party. Lots of other pubs and another restaurant run by the owners of The Rambling House are also places worth considering.
The cemetary was awesome (and this isn't just your ordinary cemetary). Reminds me a bit of Pere Lachese in Paris. Beautiful grounds, lots of great statues, sculptures, and ornate Mausoleums. Famous people buried there...It's a great time to go (because the of the Fall color on all the leaves). Spring would probably be gorgeous as well.

Any ideas?
Yeah, Rambling House. The the drinks are cheap, food is decent enough, and the Irish boys are scrumptious! Don't feel worried about going there because my friends are Dominican (one of them very visibly of color) and we went there all summer on Saturday nights. Decent grub, cheap booze, and hot lil micks serving them; what more can a lass want? lol
