Tokyo's not dense? It's probably twice as dense as NYC.

The only thing annoying about NY is annoying NYers who whine too much.

Shut up and leave... sheesh! Why would someone spend their time on a NYC board if you're not a fan..to sit on here and complain (as if anyone cared)?

NY will always be popular NY whether you live here or not..you're certainly not deterring anyone from leaving or moving in.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I hate New Yorkers who say "New York isn't that great. I know because I live here." New York City is the best place on the planet. You can walk to anything. The atmosphere is full of excitement. There is no other place like it. I dreamed of living here when I grew up in Ohio and I'm still as wide-eyed about the Big Apple now that I live here. I really don't understand people who whine about living or working in New York.

You can walk to anything.... so long a it's within walking distance.

That much can be said about anywhere.

If dense stuff and excitement is the foundations of great places, Bombay must be a dream beyond New York.

Actually, one of the BEST things about New Yorkers is that they are self-critical. When you visit other cities and states the people there are always defending their states and not trying to improve what isn't so great. New Yorkers can take flack from other (jealous??) people who put the city down and are also wise enough to know it's not perfect even though it's a GREAT place to live. We're honest, wise, and proud (but not blind) about the downside of living here. We know that tons of people would be glad to declare themselves NEW YAW-KERS! and yes, we have a funny accent and we love it because it tells people that we live in the hippest and most sophisticated city in the world.

Dunno..wish I could say the same. I just moved out here for school & met my future hubby. Money is good for us. Otherwise, I would leave NYC. Totally nothing worth staying for. I'm over the "night life" and "culture". I can live without it. Too many inconveniences and poor weather, in my opinion..but some people don't mind that.

Yep, definitely NEVER seen that. NYers seem to viciously defend this city. I find it kind of odd. I don't mind when people put down the place I'm from. It's a city, not my Mom.

Media. Media. Media. and more Media. Movies, TV, Magazines, Books etc all make NYC (actually Manhattan) has this must place to be at.

Being young (teens and into your 20s and 30s, living the single life) I can see how NYC attracts the young in thrives. They want the nightlife, being without a car (to save $$$$), having tons of job opportunities.

At least in my case I moved out of the city (Queens) because it got old, stressful and tiresome. I was sick of all the traffic, having to rely on the MTA and bus/train schedules. If I was driving it was always where do you park? I have to pay for parking? ehh. Then coming home and finding a spot near the house and worrying about alternative side parking.

Going anywhere it always was the traffic and parking problems. Stressful driving in the city and stressful MTA.

That movie The Devil Wears Prada comes to mind.

Sorry if this was said earlier- I didn't read anything earlier than post #171. Don't have time to read 17 pages.
