Moviemaking in NYC is lots of fun. Our NaturaLite Pictures romance/adventure/comedy "There's Danger In Romance" (TDIR) was based in New York City. We were all over the city with out camera, which included Central Park, Midtown, South Ferry and Brooklyn. Best anecdote was shooting in the theater district when we had our Panasonic 456 newscam as our main camera back in the 1990s. As we were shooting the exterior of Carmine's, two ladies stopped and didn't want to interrupt the shot. Finally, one of them said, "Oh, it's just TV, let's go." And they walked into frame.
Mainly, no-one bothers you when you are shooting. We have a terrific shot of the heroine "Mary" the editor of a romance magazine walking in her jogging clothes across an incredibly crowded corner at 59th Street at Central Park. That shot says, "New York" better than any other shot we've ever done. We barked directions to our actress and so had to replace much of the ambient street noise, which we did without a hitch in editing.
