Thats what im trying to figure out, I don't know what part of Brooklyn is the quickest train ride to the city other then Park Slope or Brooklyn Heights, and those areas are too expensive for me. I do like Astoria I just want to know what my options are for Brooklyn, I also want a diverse area in Brooklyn with a lot of evryone, im Italian but I do not want to live anywhere that is made up of mostly one race...I get bored!!! If im moving to Queens though, then it's going to be Astoria for sure!!!

Hi Stephanie,

I know this is a long time ago but thought I should comment.I agree with you on diverse area and I am also looking into those areas,my budget is (800 -1500) that is for rent with heat and hot water.
I was looking at Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights as well. I am curious as a black matured female would I stand out in Astoria and where did you decide to go and how is that working? I am international black female student and I am concern about safety and fitting in.

I am an international student

As a Jamaica Queens native you should go with Queens! ....but not Jamaica lmao as a couple of people have said you should check out Astoria as far as safety/commute. I love brooklyn but my knowledge on Brooklyn is limited.
