Yes, it was on the news.
I think it was around 12:30 or at least between 12 and 1 pm.
CDC closed the school and they are in the school right now cleaning it.

They already said they won't be able to contain the outbreak, so I don't know what cleaning the school is really going to do... but good, I guess?

My main concern is if I should avoid public gatherings, social events in nyc now?

Please do not blow this out of proportion.

I deal with this kind of stuff for a living.

The usual precautions for prevention of influenza are sufficient:

Wash your hands with soap and warm water frequently.

Do not touch your face (people do this unconsciously ALL the time and it's hard NOT to!).

Avoid direct contact with people who are ill.

If you are sick, cover your face with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and THROW IT AWAY.

Take a look at the CDC's website. A lot of common sense there.

Swine flu has nothing to do with Swine actually, is a virus that infects pigs. A pigs disease, but sometimes it jumps to humans.
Usually you don't die from it but you could.
