For a family of 6 with small kids, is it safe enough to walk from the PA Bus Station to Times Square or should we take a cab (3:00pm)? I suppose a cab only holds 4 so can you also hire a van from the PA or something similar? Thanks
Currently walking is perhaps the only way to go, given that traffic in a cab will take a while (its only one block) Port Authority is basically in Times Square as well, the movie theater/Madame Tussuad's and all of those venues start on Eighth Avenue where PA is in. However, since you have 6 kids make sure you hold on to them tight because the crowds are pretty hectic, the weather is warmer so crowds are bigger.

You should be fine but it does get crowded. Use the buddy system so it'll be less likely that you'll lose one of them in the crowd. Make sure they know it's ok to approach the police if they get lost. Put your name and cell phone number in their pockets so if something does happen you can easily be contacted when they are found.
the same trip 30 years ago in 1979 I would have recommended a cab!!
