hi! i'm wondering what kind of numbers of people staying in hostels that i might expect to meet in New York City during the months of january and february.

i have a chance to travel to NYC at those times, but i'm wondering if there might be low numbers of people in the hostels. I'm hoping not because i'd like to meet people from around the world as part of my trip.

thanks for any information!

I've stayed in a hostel all the times I've been to NYC, and you won't have any trouble finding or meeting people there. I left my last trip in January, and there were still a lot of people in the hostel I was staying at. You shouldn't have a problem. I know I'll be there in Jan and Feb.

Personal tips relating to the hostel stay, or exploring the city, in general?

My Boyfriend and i are planning a trip to NYC (from Scotland) in March and when searching for places to stay, Hostels seem to be the cheapest (by quite a large amount). Can anyone advise of a particularly nice, safe hostel - in a good area walking distance from the regular "touristy" places we should see?

ebc123 mentioned meeting new people from around the world... we would very much like that too, but would prefer to have a private room and bathroom
xxx

The Chelsea Hostel seems very nice. I live near it and I see lots of people coming and going it's also in a great neighborhood near lots of restaurants and the subway. Its a safe area too! It's an international hostel so lots of people from all over. I see lots of girls staying there in groups.
