by young i mean 20s - 30s. what i'm looking for is a place where lots of young ppl. live, where theres really good nitelife, lots of restaurants, some place where a 26 yr old guy will have a good time

The only places I actually see large concentrations of young people living are Williamsburg,Bushwick and Astoria.
All the other places mentioned so far seem decidedly established and middle aged to me.

Gramercy supposedly has a high concentration of the post-college crowd.

NYU is located in the Village. So there are definitely young people around the area.

Murray Hill, Upper West Side, Village, Williamsburg, Astoria, Long Island City ... depends on what your "scene" is. What I just listed ranges from Frat-tastic to Hipster and everything in between.
