Girlfriend's parents are coming into NYC for her graduation and they want to get a table at a jazz club. They suggested Birdland, Iridium or Blue Note. Anyone familiar with this scene who could offer a suggestion? If a different place would be better, do tell!

Hmm, check out Zinc Bar in the Village ... they have Bossa Nova jazz on weekends. I haven't been to Blue Note, but I've been to Terra Blues and that place rocks!

Blue Note is small and cramped. Village Vanguard is underground and cramped. they're tighter spaces because they're in the village.

Birdland is probably the best bet for a family-type setting. and you should definitely make reservations because that place fills up. they all do.

and Terra Blues is awesome. more blues based.

they all have at least 2 drink mins and usually only last a set.

Thanks for these replies... that was my feeling, that although I'd prefer Blue Note or Village Vanguard, Birdland would be better for the older set.

How's the food at Birdland? Yelp reviews were less than appetizing.

yeah, i don't think the food is that great. i didn't eat much, but the people i went with weren't really crazy about their dishes. unfortunately, if you're not eating, you'll be stuck in the bar section.

Jazz at Lincoln Center (Jazz at Lincoln Center) in the Time Warner Building. Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola is the smaller venue; it has tables.

Which is what I'm trying to avoid. I don't want to take them to a smoke filled bar at 1:30am. Gotta be more of a dinner thing.

I have been to the Blue Note for a Sunday Brunch jazz performance and it wasn't overcrowded at that time of day.

The Jazz Standard on 27th Street is a good place for family and far less cramped than many of the others. Equally importantly, it is affiliated with Blue Smoke upstairs, so the food is much better than you will get elsewhere.
