My husband and I are moving to NYC and need some advice about which neighborhoods to consider. Budget is not too much of an issue. We're looking for a fun, young professional "feel."

Where would we find other people like us: Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Tribeca, East Village, Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Soho, West Village?

If you want to live in a quieter neighborhood, close to downtown nightlife, W. Village may be your best bet.

I personally love the Upper West Side. I like being only a few blocks from the park and close to the 2,3 express trains. I also work there, so it takes me 10 minutes door to door to get to work.

"Young professional feel" gives me a direction to head in, but doesnt really let me know if the neighborhood your looking for will offer people like you. All of the neighborhoods you mentioned are fantastic. Go check them out for yourself and see what you think. Remember to go at day and night. NYC is a different place in daylight than at night. This is especially true downtown where your "quiet block" reveals velvet ropes and the latest party being thrown underneath your apartment.

If you want to try outside of the city, and consider Brooklyn, you could look into DUMBO or Clinton Hill.

The upper west side by the park is beautiful and really nice. I would suggest you look around the West 70s-80s. Its a bit pricey over there, but the community feel is great, the park is steps away, and there are a ton of stores/restaurants along Broadway.

yes, the UWS 70s/80s are nice - but the biggest drawback i've found is the restaurant scene. Yes, there are a lot of restaurants - but they can't compare w/ the quality, price and variety of the midtown/downtown restaurant scene.

I've especially found the UWS lacking in asian food: no dim sum, shabu shabu, yakitori to name a few. most of the asian restuarants in that area cater to the mainstream and aren't authentic (Gari, Haru, Tenzan, Ruby Foos, etc)

Most of my favorite restaurants are in the East Village, but I think it's too busy/noisy for my taste. It's a quick trip down there and my BF works in the neighborhood, but I like going home to the UWS.
