My folks don't want me to move to an apartment near Fordham and Grand Concourse because they say I'll spend too much paying parking tickets. I said that I'd just pay a monthly parking space somewhere near, but they think that's a stupid idea because they're really cheap.

Problem is, the apartment I'm interested in is a 3 bedroom, $1k/month.

We live in the Castle Hill area currently, where a measily 1 bedroom BASEMENT goes for $1250/month. They want me to stay in their neighborhood since there is nothing wrong with living in a tiny place. To me that's unacceptable since its me, my gf and my soon-to-be baby boy. I make $47k/year.

So if I pay $200 parking + $1000 rent monthly near GC, its still cheaper than living near Castle Hill even if the CH area has so much parking space that a limo could be your daily driver.

What do you guys say? They'd basically be forcing me to stay in the CH area since they won't let me stay on their PA insurance policy ($12/month!!!!) if I move out to Grand Concourse. They have property in PA so their insurance is based there.

do you even need the car? because there is plenty of public transportation and livery cabs in the area. and honestly parking is terrible around there, if i lived aorund there i would ditch my car in a second.
