I'm developing a micro intentional community & ideally would like to make NY its home as I see the potential. However, this is becoming increasingly challenging as I keep learning about the property taxes/assessments. I know I'm not singing a new song but for a newb it's an eye opener.

I've narrowed my search to the below areas/towns (different counties) & what remains is their tax structures.

Does anyone know which of the below areas have the least painful property taxes?

I've seen several properties that show a 100% increase in one year yet the assessment remains the same. Not sure if this is due to property/community improvements but if this is typical of most of NY then it just won't work.

These areas seem to offer more properties with some acreage/affordability. Just unsure of the taxes which I will confirm with the county.

Canton, Potsdam

Groton, Freeville, Dryden, Trumansburg, Caroline, Newfield & Beaver Dams

Thanks

This should help you out, as it includes the taxes on some of the properties as well: Property Search Results

Given what you mentioned in your other thread, you may actually find land in areas that are a better fit for what you are trying to do.

Here are some potential properties that may fit: 0 Morley Potsdam Rd, Potsdam, NY 13676

Thanks again ckhthankgod for all the helpful links, I will explore. Looks like land taxes are almost just as high, maybe the outer city limits would be better...

Are you looking within cities, as well as rural areas? Out if the properties you've looked at, where were they located?

Both but more outside the city limits as there's more value. Mainly Canton/Potsdam & Trumansburg, which so far looks like the winner. I just need to confirm the taxes :-)
