I am supposed to be moving up to the Ft. Drum area sometime between now and Nov. 1. My husband is in the military so we would like to be somewhat close to the base. We are completly freaking out since there seems to be nothing available. I've been searching and searching but everything has a wait of at least 6 months. Does anyone have any advice on what to do.? I've searched craigslist and haven't had much luck. We are needing a 2 bdrm and the max on rent is $800. Please help!!!

You're in the same boat with a lot of others. They nearly doubled the ranks at the base which caused an extreme housing shortage. Watertown is the fastest growing area in the state because of it. Funds have become available for 1000 new homes but they won't be built by the time you need to move. I don't know why more locals haven't taken the opportunity to provide new housing?

The best thing is to contact some of the realtors for options. I know several people have bought or are renting/buying in outlying towns. There may even be some who are renting in Syracuse and commuting about an hour up Rt 81. There is plenty of vacant land for a modular. It's a beautiful area, good luck.
