Just got back from apple picking up in Granville, New York.

What a lovely day!

We picked macouns and empires.

a friend of mine is going to make pies with the empires and i'm keeping the macouns.

I <3 some fresh cider donuts from Hicks Apple Orchard!

My favorite is Billy Bob's Orchard in Putnam Valley, on Lake Champlain (take Ticonderoga exit off Northway - usually there are signs to follow to Billy Bob's). In October they give you the opportunity to pick right off the trees (so tasty!) and there is a 1/2-hour long $1 hayride that takes you through the whole orchard. They also have the cider doughnuts and other goodies too. It's a real treat and a special family day.
