Hi everyone, we will be camping for two nights in massena at robert moses state park, campground. On Sunday we will be traveling to east aurora to visit friends. What are some must see or must do's along the way from massena. Any camp ground recommendations? State parks, waterfalls, restaurants? Best breakfast place? Harbors? In particular the region between massena and Oswego. Not that we can see everything, but it's a region of ny that we have never been to and are eager to explore further in the future.
We want that part of the ride to be as coastal as possible. I've read a lot about cape Vincent, sacketts harbor,
,etc.
Also how are the black flies Mosquitos at this time of year in the region?
Thank you in advance.
Check out either Sackets Harbor, Clayton, Alexandria Bay or perhaps Oswego. Clayton has a nice boat museum. Sackets has the Sackets Harbor Battlefield and is very quaint. Oswego has Fort Ontario.
Cool, thanks for the replies. Gee wiz I thought this thread would have gotten more replies by now. Where are all the proud northern NY'ers?
So far one my own, I found the Uncle Sam boat tour, the thousand islands sky tower, Robbers point lighthouse
Eldorado wildlife area near Henderson
Tibbets point lighthouse
Sacketts harbour and museums.
C'mon guys give up the places to see and eat!
I haven't been, but supposedly Tin Pan Galley in Sackets Harbor is pretty good. If you gob to Oswego, you may like Oswego Sub Shop or you could a half loaf at Garafalo's. Canale's is a good choice for Italian food.
Tin Pan has amazing breakfast. I would recommend Sackets and Clayton over Alex bay, however, Boldt castle is really fun. I wouldn't waste your time in Oswego. Not a bad place but nothing special. Cape V is nice but Clayton is nicer IMO. I hear Bella's in Clayton is very good but never been. Ryans lookout is a nice little place to eat near Henderson.
If you are short on time I would without a doubt spend my time in Sackets and Clayton, and possibly a Boldt castle visit. Hope you enjoy your visit, it really is a very beautiful area.

Yeah, outside of Fort Ontario, some cool architecture Downtown and nice sunsets, it is basically a regular small city/town. I guess having a high rate of bars, a Coast Guard station and a Great Lake port are some other things it has.
