I don't know about the right coast, since I've lived on the "Best" coast all my life...lol. I'm optimistic for the change though. Looks like we'll be moving at a nicer time; at the latest, in the beginning of May. Our neighborhood looks really pretty according to Google Street View, and I hear Stony Point is also a really nice area. Anyone live in or near Stony Point? Is there a lot of the big-box stores or are there mom and pop shops around too?

Stony Point is not a convenient place for shopping by suburban NY standards. For big-box shopping you have to go all the way down to Nanuet/West Nyack which is a long drive just to hit a Target/Home Depot/Mall or similar. The issue with Stony Point, for many people, is that it doesn't have its own school district. Instead students attend the North Rockland District, which may be majority Spanish/Minority at this point, as discussed earlier in this thread. Stony Point itself is nice and safe. You get a lot of house there for your money relative to its proximity to NYC owing to the SD issue, as well as the discount for being on the west side of the Hudson (due to its less convenient public transport to the City).
