I’m actually a realtor here in Orange County, CA, we have LA traffic and permanent summer (which we despise). We don’t like the fake uppity people here and are looking forward to getting more into reality again. Previously lived in Idaho and Wisconsin, much more enjoyable places for seasons, nature, and people. Ready for an old pickup truck, modest house, and snow shoveling workouts again. No interest in NYC personally, drove through during March to check it off the list, but love Ithaca. Don’t care much what others think about my move- many people consider where I live now to be paradise, but I guess I’m just different. Very appreciative of your advice and input
On a political note, is Broome considered Trump territory? May be the only annoyance for me if so haha
It went 47.6% (R) + 45.6% (D) in 2016. Prior to that it had voted Dem in presidential elections 1988-2012. So, at the county level, it's pretty close to an even split.
City of Binghamton + Vestal certainly lean Dem.
The other more densely populated local areas making up the core of the metro area are also pretty middle of the road - ex: Endicott, Johnson City, Endwell.
Beyond that, it goes from "lean R" to "heavily R" the further out you get from Bing in the county.

My neighbor in 1 direction is a Democrat...the guy down the road in the other direction is a Republican...and I'm an Independant...politics tend to get left out of chats with the folks here. And across the southern tier, people's views on issues vary..even within their own political party.
..I might add..as in other suburban/rural areas, not trying to change the local dynamic when you move here is a recommendation. If a more liberal/democrat oriented/trendy area is what you require...then you should look at Ithaca. People here will help a neighbor, chat, wave...but still like to stay somewhat private as far as non related neighbors. There were 2 black families in my rural area(1 couple retired to the south, the other transferred for a job). Nobody that I am aware of seemed to care one way or the other about the fact there were 2 black families out here. A woman down the road has alternate lifestyle decals on her car, and lets anyone who will listen how to the left she is. Just beyond her...1/8 mile or so..a guy flies a Trump flag at his house...in both cases..someone driving by may have an opinion, but don't make an open issue of it. I think you get my drift in all of this.
No, I don’t require changing others, we aren’t pushy.
I find it annoying they are setting up Trump t-shirt sales tents on our city sidewalks here. It’s pretty in your face since you can’t pass and police ticket them but they don’t move. This is a very strong R county here, not the surfer dudes people think of! LOL
Since you will be working at BU, you will be at the epicenter of the D leaning populace - the further out you go from the university, the more R it becomes, similar to Cornell and Ithaca.
^I believe that Oneonta is the same way(home to SUNY-Oneonta and Hartwick College). It is about 60 miles/about an hour down I-88 from Binghamton, OP.
