Let’s hope so. The taxes in this state are making us move again. I’ve had it.
I take a serious tax hit to live in NY, but the profitability of my business more than makes up for that compared to the sunbelt state where I came from.
I don't like taxes either, but you have to find a balance that gives you a high quality of life. I actually work less in NY and can be choosier about the jobs I take because my clients actually make a decent living here and can afford to pay me. On time. I mean, everyone can pay me eventually, but it wasn't until I started up my business in NY that I had clients who didn't dodge my calls, ignore my billing, give me sob stories, ghost completely, etc.
Yeah, I would hate to be an educator here, or a civil servant, certainly a retail drone, but if you have an in demand skill, NY is easy sailing even with the crazy stupid regulation, beaurocracy, and tax rate. I'd love to see most of that disappear (although the regulation of my business actually helps me) but in the free and easy states, my business is barely profitable, much less giving me time off to partake in expensive hobbies.
The one fiscally conservative sunbelt state I think I could make it work is Florida since I can tailor my clientele to be much like my clients in NY, but with lower taxes, but then I'd have to live in Florida.
I don't know what you do, but figure out how to service clients in NY while not being physically in NY.
