If you look into the areas I posted just above, I believe you will find what you are looking for, assuming you are looking for say, 10,000 sq ft, multi million $$. I can not post pictures as most are secluded. I've seen many of the places along Lake Road from the water side by boat, and there is some amazing architecture.
This is why the question about where in NY was asked.
I will say that you can find some large mansions outside of the NYC area, but it is tough to suggest much without specific criteria. hotkarl gave a good suggestion in terms of the Hamptons, as it is a commonly known area in regards to large properties.
How does Hamptons compare to Lake Road? They both seem ideal.
I can't recall ever visiting the Hamptons, but it appears to be more clustered, with nearby commercial areas.
Depending where you are on Lake Road, services, like groceries, restaurants and shopping may be 10-15 minutes away. Maybe more. There are 2 Wegmans in the Webster area. One Topps in Ontario. All are at least up on rt 104. Sodus Point offers a bunch of dining options in a village setting and waterfront.
I would say property in the Hamptons would be more expensive, and nicer, but the Lake Road area gives you the privacy you desire
Just to be clear OP, are you also referring to the Lake Road in the Skaneateles area as well? If so, that whole area is lined with affluent residences, which include some famous people. You are also close to this nice, walkable village: https://www.skaneateles.com/
Auburn’s Downtown has been improving as well, with some restaurants, the Auburn Public Theater, apartments and the Equal Rights Heritage Center. It also has the Merry Go Round Playhouse at Emerson Park for professional theater and a drive in theater just west of the city for a more family friendly type of thing to do.
Syracuse is also only about 25-30 minutes away for even more. So, you have multiple options in terms of places to go, while there is also a nice, vibrant, walkable village right there.
This isn’t even considering that it is in the Finger Lakes Region, with its wineries and other communities nearby.

I like privacy but as long as you don't live like sardines then it's fine for me.

Correct, that's the area. I did a quick Google Search, the Hamptons is one of the most expensive areas in the U.S. and the most expensive in NY with a lot of celebrities residing there. What is the 'vibe' like between the Hamptons and Lake Road? Which has nicer views? Thanks

I would say that Skaneateles, while high end for the area, it still has a more "down to earth" feeling to it.
I would also say that the area has nice views of the lake and of the hills surrounding the area. This shot can give you an idea of what it looks like in that area: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9384...0!8i5120?hl=en
Can you tell me more about Lake Road VS. the Hamptons, thanks.
What more do you want to know? The Hamptons are more well known whereas Skaneateles is still a bit more under the radar to many. So, you are likely to get an affluent crowd with NYC area ties, whereas Skaneateles is likely to have some with Upstate NY ties and maybe some others mixed in.

I'm wondering, as there is no "Lake rd" in Skaneateles, are you referring to the Lake rd. which is NE of Rochester along Lake Ontario between Irondequoit Bay and Sodus Bay?
