Lake Ontario is massive and gives off an ocean feel. But I don't know that it can compare to the beaches and seashores of Maine, Cape Cod, Cape May etc. Niagara Falls and Thousand Islands are destinations. But for the most part much of Lake Ontarios lake shore will be more of a regional draw. Somewhat like Ohio. It has some things along Lake Erie, but the tourists are mostly from Cleveland/Toledo/Detroit.

Yes, of course. I believe much of the waterfront in New England, etc is public, and it's almost all private, with no public access on LO.

Not sure, but I would say that Rochester's biggest draw years ago was to tour Kodak Park. Today, I would say the biggest draws are the Strong National Museum of Play and the Finger Lakes Wine Trails and region.

I can’t answer why there isn’t more modern development on Ontario. But just my opinion it is prettier or more scenic than Erie.

If my SO would let me, I could see living up there. Sacketts Harbor, and much of that “eastern shore” are stunning.

Outsider question. Are the salmon (coho, king) safe for consumption from lake Ontario?

Not salmon, but this helps in terms of consumption of fish from the lake: https://www.health.ny.gov/press/rele...ish_update.htm

Around Pulaski in the Salmon River, you have people that stand in the river to fish. Detailed information: https://www.fishsalmonriver.com/River-Fishing

Here is a fish consumption breakdown: https://www.health.ny.gov/environmen...ence.htm#table
