Planning to buy first home (apartment, townhouse, safe neighborhood)

Hi,

We are planning to buy an 2BR + 2 BA apartment/townhouse in the NYC vicinity within a budget of 800k.

Here are a few things we are considering:

1 - A commuting distance of 45 mins to the downtown.
2 - Safe neighborhood (we are both working professional with a possibility of late night work/travel)
3 - Closer to the train station
4 - 1000+ sqft area

I know all the above points might not be covered but I would appreciate if members here can help us figure out the areas that might meet the criteria.

Do you have more specific information in terms of where you are commuting to? I ask because you are likely looking at either Westchester County or NJ. So, you may want to ask the question in those forums for more relevant answers.
