The information about other NY grocery chains is very helpful for me, thanks! I'll look up those store locations and check out the satellite pictures to see if there are some wooded neighborhoods nearby. It's gonna take forever.
We are going to come up for a long visit soon to get the in-person experience but I'm trying to weed out places we shouldn't bother checking out.
I like these below but as far as I can tell nothing on the level of Wegmans close by (maybe I'm wrong?):
I'm curious to find out how woodsy and rustic we can get while still having quick year round access to high end grocery store.
You can find a property like that all over NY. If you are looking to purchase, be ready to act fast. I believe the Rochester area still has the shortest time between listing and selling. Most are selling over the asking price.

What JW said, as properties are going pretty fast and some with buyers having cash in hand. Such properties can be found minutes from the cities up here, if not within city limits in select places.
As for the properties listed, the first 2 are south/SE of Buffalo and are a good distance from a Wegmans, but I believe that Ellicottville has a Tops in the village.
The next 2 are in the Adirondacks and are hours from a Wegmans and a good drive from a full service grocery store.

If you're talking "high end" groceries, that would be pretty much just Wegmans and Whole Foods. Topps has tried a couple of times to up it's game, but it didn't work out, although I think they still have one of those concept stores in East Aurora.

...While I am a county away from Wegman's (to the east)..and 2 counties way from one(to the west)..do take this into consideration. You have not stated if you are relocating from a more developed, urban area (with more traffic). And that last point is important. along with secondary roads, Rt17/86 goes east to west through the southern tier of NY. If not real familiar with that term, it generally includes those counties sitting on the top of the northern edge of Penn. You can find suburban and rural wooded properties all through this region (and priced reasonably). With the lack of large population centers and a good road network..travel time to a store such as Wegman's is quite doable. I live outside of Owego in Tioga County. On a typical weekday, I can get to the Wegman's in Johnson city/Broome County in about 45 minutes. Going west(2 counties)...I can get to the Wegman's in Corning , NY/Steuben County in about 1hr,15min or so. Weather, etc..can affect these drive times. Something overlooked by many is that due to road development over many years, and the slow outflow of residents to other, currently popular states...has made travel easier/quicker upstate(with some exceptions). Even with 2 college graduations this weekend in Broome County (and the 10k+ visitors)...other than traffic by the SUNY colleges...travel is still doable with no issues. That is one negative of the rapid development that has ensued in some currently " great states to move to". Infrastucture..esp the road network, has not kept pace with development. Hope this is of some help.

There are also Wegmans in Elmira(Clemens Center Parkway) and Ithaca(Elmira Road/Route 13), which aren’t too far away from Tioga County as well.
^ Keep in mind that the OP specifically stated they want to be close to high quality organic food year round. I read that as maybe 10 minutes, not an hour away.

Yeah, I think from what the OP mentioned, this may be a case of regular access to a grocery store. With that said, in terms of Tioga County and reasonable access to a Wegmans, the Spencer-Van Etten and Candor areas of the county can be within 20-25 minutes of the Ithaca location; the portion around Apalachin can be within 15-20 minutes of the Johnson City location and around Waverly/the western portion of the county can be about 20-25 minutes from the Elmira location. So, it may be a matter of where they look/are within the county and what is a reasonable drive for the OP.
