For all the crappy things I can think of connected with NY state (hmmm..much of it ..govt generated)..I can also think of many positives about this state. And this especially applies to our state's natural beauty. Been many places in this country/world...we have such a diverse range of nature to enjoy. Adk's, Catskills, Finger Lakes, The beaches on L.I., The St Lawrence/ Thousand Isle region..places more man made influenced like Cooperstown. Heck...going back 5 yrs or more..interesting things to see/do in NYC. With all the upside down stuff going on the last couple years..that last place may not hold the same interest now.
I use as evidence of this state's natural beauty, the interest it draws from those visiting here. Occasionally, I take walks at a park just outside of Owego. The camping area seems to have become a place where campers set up..and use that as their "base of operations" for travel in upstate NY. These tourists dont want to live in NY (for various reasons), but find much to see and do while doing their trips away from their rv/campsite. Too many examples from conversations I have had...but here's a few. The amount of lakes, rivers for boating/swimming; the wineries, hiking in the ADK's/Catskills, etc.... Ones from supposedly "great areas to live" comment on the uncrowded nature of places to visit; the more moderate temps to make the visit less grueling(this comes from visitors from south/southwest). The small town nature of many areas of the state that are disappearing from "move to" states; and the general friendliness of many of the natives they encounter. So..for all the things that often bug me about NY, there are pluses that often need to be pointed out by those who visit here.

^I totally agree…There are many places to visit, including many that are lesser known. Places like Salmon River Falls, Fair Haven, Southwick Beach, Delphi Falls, Sylvan Beach and Cazenovia, among others, in the lesser known category.

Just to open this up, what are some lesser known or talked about places do you guys/girls like to visit?

Naples has 1 big winery there...the name escapes me at the moment...with tours, as I recall. Don't know much about their grape festival..though..as with everything else..it could be checked out via the "net". Did I hear correctly..sometime back...that a number of Italian P.O.W's ..stayed or came back to the area after WW2..which added to the interest in grapes/wine production?
