We will be moving to the area in 3 more weeks! My husband will work in lower Manhattan. We have 4 school aged children and DH plans on commuting up to a max of 60-90 minutes each way. My husband will not need public transportation and his job will be very flexible regarding traveling during non peak times (if there is such a thing!). I spent a lot of time on the NJ forum, thinking this is where most commuters lived. I could be wrong-so I wanted to check. We are looking to buy in an area 400-500K, good schools etc. Any areas to recommend in NY state? Are the taxes about the same? Thanks for any thoughts/recomendations!
I would suggest Orange County, NY for 4-500k look in Goshen or Monroe areas. They have some of the best school districts in the county. If you were 250-350 I would send you somewhere else but stick with those two areas, if you need a good realtor in that area, pm me.
Orange County is commutable, it depends on what you what you use for transportation and where in Manhattan your husband works. You can find a nice home in the area in your price range. Let me know if I can help you locate a home in the area, I would be happy to assist. I would suggest along the Route 17 corridor.
Have you considered Rockland County? Great location to the city, you can def find a home in your price range and the schools are very very good here. I moved up here almost thirty years ago from the city and it is the best thing I ever did
Good luck
