Single mom w/ 2 kids moving to ft drum area (New York: apartments, rental homes)

Help, i am relocating to ft drum from fl with my 2 kids, because of a job offer on the middle of december
what are the best areas for kids, school, atractions?
My son is 5, my daugther 3
what do i need for my car to make it safe?
What about clothes?
Where could i find some updated rental information around the area?
What about daycare?
I am driving out there, what is the safest route?
How is the weather now?

Well, the Watertown/Ft. Drum area has good schools all over. I would say that Carthage, Indian River, General Brown and Sackets Harbor are the best, among others. Watertown schools aren't that bad and is the biggest city in the area too. It's Fall here and I think most will say it is the best time of the year around here. It's still in the 70's during the day and the 50's at night. Your wardrobe will change, as you will have to get a good jacket for the Winter and some sweaters, long sleeved shirts and boots. If you're not use to driving in the snow, you should at least get all-weather tires or if you definately aren't sure, get snow tires for the Winter. New York schools - NY elementary, middle and high school information

The best way to get up here from Florida would be I-95 to I-83(take the Beltway around Baltimore before getting on that route) to I-81(will get on that route at around Harrisburg) and that will take you all the way to Ft. Drum.
