The City of Lockport schools aren't among the best. If you live in the "Town" of Lockport, though, many areas south are assigned to Starpoint School District ... which is among the best in the area.

While Lockport is closer to Rochester as the crow flies than Amherst ... logistically, you'd get from Amherst to Rochester faster since (parts of) Amherst are right near the thruway. Slightly closer to Rochester, but still a suburb of Buffalo - is Clarence. Its a great small town and depending on where in Clarence you would live, it could be a viable solution. A great small town with an historic downtown, etc.

Default Best City to Live

I lived in Medina for a little more than a year. I was from Connecticut and bought a home there with the intent to start up a small business. While I found in general that the people of Medina was fairly nice and pleasant I did find the Village Hall to be a rather corrupt entity that was not interested in adhering to state and federal laws or regulations that pertained to my particular business. They do a fantastic job of driving out existing business and preventing new business from coming into town.

I have been told that I should have moved to Albion. A different mentality from Medina they say. If I move back to that region I will put Albion on the list especially if it is more small business friendly than Medina.

Batavia has about 15 to 16,000 people and is the only city of size between Buffalo and Rochester. My few visits there were fine and I found people to be pleasant. One transplant from Tennessee loved the area and she told me she never wanted to leave Batavia.

Your words of wisdom are lovely and all, but who is being negative??

"In between" means as even commute as possible between the cities of Buffalo and Rochester. Eden is SW of Buffalo, making it at least 1 1/2 hours to Rochester and Alden is about an hour. Wilson is so far north it isn't convenient to EITHER city.

Pull up a map, follow the 90 and mention some towns that fall along it between Buffalo and Rochester. Batavia ia the biggest one and that is why everyone is mentioning it and not Amherst.....

I grew up in Buffalo, now live in Rochester, and travel back and forth between the 2 cities very often. If you want to be in between, Batavia is the best option. Make sure that you're main travel option between Rochester and Buffalo is Route 90 (the NY State Thruway). Batavia is 45 minutes to Rochester and Buffalo. Alden is essentially a far our suburb from Buffalo. Clarence is a nice town, but essentially is in the Buffalo area -- will be an hour to 1 hour 15 minutes to Rochester. Lockport is an 1 1/2 drive to Rochester along Route 104. You also have to keep in mind the best route in bad weather ... again this will be Route 90. Route 104 can be tricky when it's really bad.
