My wife and I expecting our first child in January and are strongly considering moving from Arizona to New York next summer, so that we can be closer to her family. We would like to live within 2 hours of Syracuse (since that's where she's from) and have no interest in living in NYC. When we move, I'll be 26, have 3 years of successful second grade teaching experience in a very impoverished area, and be 6 credit hours away from a Masters' degree in Ed. Leadership. I will be looking for an elementary teaching position for the 2010-2011 school year and I have a few questions:

- When do districts typically start posting jobs?
- I do have the option of either finishing my Masters' degree before I move or online after I move. Would delaying getting my Masters' degree make it easier for me to get a teaching job or should I just finish it up so that I can get paid more?
- How long does it typically take for an out-of-state candidate to get certified in New York? (I'm fully certified in Michigan and Arizona.)
- Do school districts typically offer benefits packages that either cover the employees' spouse/child. (It'll cost me $600 every two weeks to cover my wife and child if I went through my current districts' health insurance plan).
- Did districts in New York have to cut a lot of teachers this year?

Thank you very much for the information!
