Keep in mind that many of the larcenies could be related to Hobart College students and what occurs on campus too. Students can be prone to leave things unattended, which can result in larcenies occurring on and off campus.
Yeah I got ya. To point out though, when I said worked.. they actually work(ed) in Geneva while living in neighboring towns. Wasn't trying to make it sound like their opinion was based purely on outside judgement without interation / first hand experience of Geneva. That would be foolish on my part, especially to repeat it when giving someone else advice. I appreciate what you said though. I agree, to an extent, on the college thing- being a college student myself.

Geneva does NOT have a high crime rate. I am a native. It's one of the biggest towns in the area, so of course its crime rate will be a little higher than villages with only 500 people. The college students do add to the crime rate a bit, with theft, partying, etc. Geneva is a beautiful, historic town and I'm proud to have grown up there. The prettiest areas are South Main Street along Seneca Lake, and upper Castle Street, all beautiful 19th century homes. The pre-fab homes on in the Bayview area don't actually match the wonderful architecture that you see in the rest of the town.

I totally agree and I also think that Geneva's diversity might make people think it's crime rate is higher than it really is. It is a nice city with a lot of beauty.

No way Geneva has a high crime rate .... i'd be much more concerned about the ability to make money than concern about having it stolen
