Does anyone have any experience with renting out property to hunters? What is fair? How do you calculate the fee, is it by acre or week or by season?

Any input would be appreciated for both owners and hunters.

Thanks

I would think it would be by season. Now which season are you talking about? There is bow hunting season, deer season, and others all at different times and with different licenses.

I'm not familiar with anyone who paid for access to hunt other than those who belong to a private hunting club with their own restricted territory. Generally, any land that doesn't have 'Posted' signs clearly marked all over is considered open territory.

You may also want to talk to your atty and insurance agent about this as to any liability you may have or legal documents that should be signed to limit your liability should you grant permission and someone be killed.

Trappers may be a safer bet.

1. Have a legal doc. defining the arrangement
2. Get w/the people wishing to lease/hunt your place on the terms, #of people allowed, etc...
3. Don't agree to a long term lease

Thank you both for your input.
Tioga, would I be able to get a copy of your document? If so DM me and I will give you my email.

I have the property clearly posted now. I have mentioned in a prior post I believe a neighbor was leasing out the property when it was in my mom's name. My wife and I have thoroughly walked it and identified shoot lanes and tree stands on it and on the property line pointing in.

I figure I might as well lease it out since I do not live there and people will take it upon them selves and hunt it anyway.

I don't have anyone for this season for any activity bow, gun, bird, deer or bear. My biggest thing is trying to figure out what to ask. It's 140 acres split by a road fields and then hill side on both sides, with a 90/50 split. I don't know if I should quarter it or something like that. Right now it's all about revenue, pay for the taxes and my brush hogging maintenance or some part of it.

We don't lease out any of our properties, I'm going on information others have given me over the years, when they've leased their property out.
