Its still a dump worse than ever, The gangs are out of control. There are no white people left in the city besides old timers. Theres no saving that place. Drive around the East Side of Newburgh for a few minutes. its like a scene from the wire. Latin and Black gangs are at war its not a place you want to visit.

I drove through Newburgh in 2008 and took some pics. I have to admit it does seem like a depressing city in many ways. Here's a link to some pics: Newburgh, NY '08 - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/22001166@N00/sets/72157606913585960/ - broken link)

People typically don't just drive through Newburgh unless its for a reason. On a side note too bad the city is going down the tube.

^ I like to explore/visit cities I've never been to. I'm in property management/building operations, so seeing what other cities have in the way of structures is a bit of a busman's holiday for me.

I lived on Grand Street, near the Hudson, a couple of blocks from the cemetery and library, and down the hill from that college (Mt. St. Mary's or something).
Anyway, I remember that I never, ever wanted to go back to Newburgh. NFA was full of pregnant teens, racially motivated fights at least once a week, me getting harassed by security because I had the audacity to hang out with a white kid during recess (they assumed I was selling him drugs). There were a lot of burned out buildings. Packs of stray dogs preying on me while I waited for the school bus. Despite all the crap, it was a very beautiful place and there were some very nice people there. I remember grabbing something to eat for lunch over at Craccolicci's. The view of the Hudson from the library. I'm wondering, how is Newburgh now?
I visited Newburgh in July of 2011, I saw more small business popping up on Broadway, mostly latino run businesses, and I saw minor improvements from 1994 when I attended Mount Saint Mary College. There is a big influx of latinos moving into the city of Newburgh, but a lot still needs to be done. I am considering relocating to Newburgh from Miami, FL for the simple reason that I have some great ideas on how to revitalize this precious gem once known as the Pearl of the Hudson. I have some great ideas i think I can make a change for Newburgh, I have written a few letters but nobody is taking me serious, If you love Newburgh for its history, potential, close proximity to NYC, reply lets get together and plan this thoroughly and lets take back Newburgh away from all the scum that plague this city, and by that I dont mean the poor, or anything racial, I mean the people that make this city uninhabiltable by selling drugs, crime, muggings, etc. My email is Kinglu6900@aol.com. I am willing to relocate to Newburgh from Miami, FL to make this happen. I look forward to hearing from you all. We need to improve the quality of life, transprotation, affordable housing for all, jobs, fight crime, etc, etc, bring businesses to the area, it can be done, look at Poughkeepsie and Nyack NY we can make a diifference.

I looked over those photos. Got some good ones. Some of the buildings are worse now others have been rehabbed pretty cool that you did that. Are you on IG I know people that own some of those buildings they would go nuts for those photos.
