Not to nitpick, but the earnings and forecast for both Renault and Nissan are reported separately. The companies are allied and Renault does own about 44% of Nissan, but it is not the same situation as say Ford and Lincoln. It is more like VW and Porsche before VW took Porsche over.

This article from the WSJ does a better job explaining the current situation of Nissan and other Japanese automakers:

Basically their profits are down do to the strength of the Yen. The stronger the Yen, the "cheaper" they are selling their cars in other markets for. Hence, why their sales are going up, but profits are going down. In this case it has nothing to do with Renault.
