So I usually greet the bus driver when I get on. "Hi" or similar. And you know how it is. The typical respose is either indifference or a friendly hi.

Today was a little bit different.

Today's driver. Black man, probably in his late 40s, greets me with "Hi princess."

So I thought I was hearing things. But when I left it was "have a good night princess."

That was odd. I thought I'd share.

Was he significantly older than you? Father/uncle-age or thereabouts? If so it was just a term of endearment and he probably says it to a lot of women. It may not be entirely respectful but men of a certain age who were raised a certain way may use such terms when meeting women in passing, especially if the woman is younger and they're feeling paternal.

I think it sounds sweet, at least how I imagine it.

Well he is probably 20 years younger than my dad. 10-15 years older than my real age and about 20 years older than my commonly perceived age. Hence the weirdness. I do come across as young, but not as a high schooler!

Sounds like he was being kind, and buttering you up for future greetings.
