I thought Fran Drescher was sexy as Hell in this series.. but (for me) it still wasn't enough to save the show.

I'm with the general consensus in this thread.. no one (of any age), should ever have to watch The Nanny..

But don't you think we have to experience the bad to truly appreciate the good?

I guess it might be all right with the mute button on. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me, I just couldn't sit through it long enough to determine if the show was actually any good.

And I'm not sure if the worst part was Fran Dresher herself, or all the women who would go around trying to talk like her.

I think the one thing most folks on here are thinking is, unless your niece is under your care or her parents are doing her physical harm, what does it matter what movies they do and don't let her watch???

Yes, - getting back on topic, sorry - I get that the apparent inconsistancy might be hard to comprehend, but I'm not sure why it really matters.

If the reasons she gives for not letting her daughter watch those shows is because of situations similar to those in the programs she does let her watch you might want to point out the inconsistency to your sister. If that's the case there's probably an underlying reason that she doesn't want to admit or maybe just hasn't put her finger on. For instance, I have a sister-in-law who wouldn't let her kids watch Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood but let them watch similar educational programs. She just thought the show was boring and didn't want to watch it herself.

Maybe the parents don't want the kid to have ideas of how to act up, assuming The Nanny is the show I'm thinking of.

You're probably thinking of Supernanny or Nanny 911. Not the same as The Nanny.
