"Daddy"--Am I the only one that cringes? (appropriate, father)

Well, I called him "Daddy" all his life, why would I suddenly change after 20+ years? Every phone conversation we ever had ended with "Love you, Daddy," and his response was "I love my girl."

I can't tell you how much I have missed hearing that warm, gruff voice in the 2-1/2 years since he died.

Sorry if it creeps you out, but really, it's not my problem -- it's yours.

People calling their dad "Daddy" doesn't bother me, but I do tend to want to put berets & wayfarer sunglasses on them and correct them that it's supposed to be "Daddy-o".

My father passed away many years ago. I called him Daddy until the day he died, and I was 28 at the time....and I still say "Hi, Daddy" and "I miss you, Daddy" when I visit his grave.

any man can be a sperm donor father, but not every man is considered a dad or daddy

daddy is a term of endearment- particularly from a daughter to a dad

we don't use that term , but it wouldn't make me cringe if I heard it

although if an adult man stilled called his mom....mommy in public.....yeah, maybe i'd cringe

I remember watching " ma & pa kettle" as a kid and then started calling my mother "ma" and still call her that

I never said it was my business. I am sure there are a few things in life that make you cringe.

My family has a long history of affection. I sort of view disaffectionate families as cold.

For my mom (and I'm 28), it's most often "Mama" or "Houma". Sometimes I call her by other names like "Mommer" and "Houmer", and sometimes most of our conversations consist of baby talk. I always make sure she knows she is a wonderful mother and caregiver.

For my late dad, it was "Dad" and occasionally "Dadder".

She calls me "Bear Cub", "Bearscrubber", "Baby Bear Cub", "Jouma", and "Jake", among others.

My mom and dad most of the time called each other "mamma" and "papa". Rarely did they use their first names with each other, usually as a reprimand.

I was watching the movie The Birds today and the scene where Tippi Hedren is trying t tell her father over the phone about the bird attacks and she kept saying.."well I know Daddy...yes Daddy.....ok Daddy..I don't know Daddy!!!!!" Thought of this thread!!!!

The more examples I read of how people use the words mommy and daddy with their parents, the more I realize that I kind of like the sound of it and it makes me happy they have that close of a relationship. I guess that would be the opposite of a cringe.

Wish I had loved my dad enough to call him such a sweet title, but unfortunately I didn't know him well enough, and he pretty much ignored us kids beginning a couple years after the divorce. I was 2 when they divorced, so I very much missed having a father in my life instead of the revolving door stepfathers that I got. If I had a daddy I would call him that til the day he died.
